You and your future 

During this internship at Rabobank, you work on your career by researching sustainable AI and emissions within a banking environment. You will be part of a specialized team that focuses on cost‑efficient and sustainable use of AI and cloud technology. This allows you to develop both in‑depth content knowledge and strong research skills. 

After completing your internship, you will have gained hands‑on experience with current challenges related to sustainable IT and AI at a large Dutch bank. You will have learned how to translate research outcomes into practical insights for stakeholders, strengthening your position for a next step in this domain. 

In this role, you work within the Sustainable AI and FinOps team (SAIF), a newly formed team that focuses on developing mature practices for cost and sustainability topics related to AI. The start date is flexible and determined in consultation. 

In short / Examples: 

• Comparing carbon emissions of AI workloads in public cloud environments versus on‑premise infrastructure. 

• Investigating how model size, architecture and optimization techniques influence emissions and costs. 

• Developing a calculation methodology to determine on‑premise emissions. 

• Research cost management frameworks for Agentic workloads 

• Assist in day-to-day activities of the SAIF team, including reporting of emissions and costs, analysis, and adhoc support related to sustainable AI and cloud usage 

Practical 

• Length: Internship: 3 to 6 months. 

• Startdate: August or later 

• Hours per week: flexible, in consultation.

You and your talent 

• You are enrolled in a master’s programme in a technical or quantitative field. 

• You have basic knowledge of AI or machine learning systems. 

• You have experience with data analysis using Python, R or similar tools. 

• You have an affinity with sustainability, green IT or environmental impact through study or practice. 

• You demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills. 

• You are able to translate technical findings into clear and actionable insights.
